'Big Red'
      (An Estes Rocket Powered Rig.)

Big Red is powered by a modified 1/2-A Estes model rocket engine. The 'parachute' load has been removed and the 'fire' end has been bore to 1/4" (to lessen the power). The engine's 'trailing' smoke is directed out of the motor chamber via operating exhaust stacks.

On the drag strip, an ET has never been recorded for Big Red... the electric eyes used cannot react fast enough. However, best estimates put 'Red at about 0.5 sec. per 20' run (the track record holder was 1.13 sec., Big Red beat the car by about 1/2 track).

For the 'Melt-Down' show... well, we'll let the following photos do the talking...
