OFF ROAD FUNDAMENTALS

NOTE:    The following describes how we at HOMTPA / Greenbrier Raceway like to run our Off Road races. But remember, these are just guide lines. Feel free to use what you like and change what you want.

TRACK SET-UP:

Unless your planning on a permanent layout, all you really need to do is dig out all those stunt or specialty track sections you have stuffed in a box and put them together. The more cross-over, squeeze, and hump track sections you have... the more fun. (track example)

RACE FORMAT:

HOMTPA does not sanction Off Road events, and does not actually have any 'set' racing format. However, here are some ideas and/or highlights on how we like to race... Off Road style.

For both Preliminary and Main racing, we use a 'First off' format. This means (on a 4 lane layout) the first car to come off would get 4th (last) place, the next = 3rd place, next = 2nd, and the last car running would get 1st place.
At any time should a running car be 'lapped' by the current lead car, the lapped car would be considered 'Black Flagged' (for going too slow) and removed from competition (be sure to keep track when a 'flagged car is removed as to award the correct finishing position).
NOTE: We leave 'crashed' cars on the track for added turmoil, but any car that is 'out' may be removed by turn marshals if you wish.

For the preliminary (qualifying) race, all drivers race in standard 'Round-Robin' style, each driver would race each lane in a rotating order.
Points would be awarded each round as follows:

                                            1st lap winner   -   1 pt.    (bonus)
                                            1st off                  -   1 pt.    (4th place)
                                            2nd off                 -   2 pts. (3rd place)
                                            3rd off                  -   3 pts. (2nd place)
last car running -   5 pts. (winner)

The top 4 point winners will then move to the Main, which is run in the same manor as above.

CLASSES:

Again, while there are no set rules for classes, 2 that we like are
"T-Jet Hard body Super Stock" and "T-Jet Modified".

T-Jet Hard body S.S.:
    - Hard body T-Jet Dune Buggies
    - Stock chassis, electrical, motor, and magnets
    - Any tires, wheels, and 'hop-up' gears

T-Jet Modified:
    - Any truck body (hard or lexan)
    - Un-modified chassis with stock magnets (chassis may be drilled to add
body mounts and to add 'nerf bars')
    - Any other modifications permitted

One last thing, You'll notice we use only Thunderjet (non-magnatraction) cars.
'Magnatraction' cars have trouble with some stunt track sections and frankly, for Off Road, they're not much fun.
